Vision

  • To create awareness of the role and contribution made by the people of Asian origin in uplifting material, intellectual, social, cultural, and spiritual life in the United States.

  • Mission

  • To recognize the dedication and commitment of individuals who expend countless hours to improve the quality of life of the Asian community in West Michigan in particular and in the United States in general and work tirelessly to promote harmonious relationships within the diverse Asian communities as well as between Asian and other communities.
  • To bring about greater awareness of the high points, strengths, novelties, and exoticism of various Asian cultures in the United States.

  • Strategic Priorities and Goals

  • To develop a platform for projecting a genuine and positive image of Asian communities in the United States through showcasing the contributions of the community leaders and individuals with a glowing record of social and community service of Asian communities.
  • To create an authentic aura and a medium that shines well-deserved light on individual deeds that help the Asian communities grow in their cultural and social stature and thus provide an incentive for a continued effort towards helping Asian communities lead a self-gratified life.
  • To act as a premier fund-raiser event to generate critical financial support for Asian Center activities that are solely focused on improving the social, cultural, material, intellectual, and spiritual life of Asian communities. These activities include: Asian Youth Day Camp, Evergreen Club for the Elderly, Asian College Students Reception, Tobacco Prevention Program, Asian Hour Program, Asian Center Community Food Program, Violence Prevention/Education and Culturally Competent Mental Health Training and Counseling, Health Fare for Asian Elderly, and Need Assessment.

    Dr. Blanco is a family physician, practicing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His outreach activities include active membership in nonprofit organizations and also actual, hands-on volunteer work that seeks to improve living conditions of the members of the community. He was co-founder and is currently vice chairman and board member of Asian Health Outreach Foundation. Dr. Blanco embraces cultural diversity in the community and is involved in activities in various ethnic communities in the West Michigan. His leadership is recognized by his peers as effective and valuable, and is always coupled with a combination of real, hands-on involvement and financial contribution.

    Mr. Sunny Dhoorh is a well known member of the Asian community. He has a genuine passion for the growth and enrichment of Asians in Michigan and to this end Sunny contributed his time, efforts, and finances generously to integrate the Indian community. Formation of Punjabi Cultural Sociaty is a prime instance of his exemplary work where community partnerships were able to build a Gurdwara under his motivation and help from many dedicated colelagues. Sunny also makes contribution to our multi-cultural Asian Society of Michigan. This in not only recognized by the people of Michigan but by the Democratic Party in Michigan. He has received numerous awards for his service to Punjabi, Indian ,and Asian communities including the Person of the Year award twice from the State of Michigan. Indeed, he has earned several awards from the Governor, Mayor and Speaker of the House.

    Pearl A. Kloac is active in a number of volunteer efforts, such like, Habitat for Humanity, Heart Side Clinic, Gods Kitchen, National and Local Black Nurses Association, Mary Free Bed Hospital, and DeVos Children Center. She also the author for thesis: Replication Study of Nursing Dignoses in COPD Clients, and submitted several Newsletter articles. Pearl has earned many awards for her social work to enrich and uplift Asian life in the United States. Among others, she received America’s Registry of Outstanding Professional Honors in 2001-2001, 2001 Leadership Award from Michigan Association of Occupational Health Nurses, and Recognition Award for Mass Immunization Campus in India.

    Minnie is a linkage to the Asian and Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, African Americans, as well as the mainstream communities in the West Michigan area. She is also well know not only in the Grand Rapids area for her cultural dance presentations, but her exposure of presenting cultural dances is well extended in Detroit, Muskegon, Cadillac, Travers City. She is also well connected outside Michigan in Indiana, Ohio, Chicago, Florida, Hawaii. In addition, she volunteers her time to countless non-profit associations, community projects, and church functions. She is active in many association group, such like, Philippine Cultural Group of Michigan, Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women, and Michigan Red Ladies Group.

    Jennifer Pascua is a reporter and Weekend Morning Anchor at WZZM Channel 13, the ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids. She works full-time and is a mother of three boys, yet she finds time to help make Grand Rapids a better community. Jennifer is the Vice Present of Broadcast/Secretary of Asian American Journalist Association, the Former board member for the West Michigan Filipino Association, and the Luray Neighborhood Committee Member in Grand Rapids. She is active in many community organization, such as Mult-iracial Association of Professionals, Grand Rapids Young Professionals and many other diversity initiatives in Grand Rapids.

    Mr. Ranade continues to be involved in socially inclined non-profit organizations such as Juvenile Diabetes, Habitat for Humanity, and fund raising to promote social and cultural activities. He also chaired the fund-raising efforts and Walk-a Thon event for Juvenile Diabetic Foundation to raise awareness of the dreaded desease and surpassed all goals in fund raising and participation in the event. Throughout his career has been a dedicated supporter of science and technology education, he is also an adjunct professor at GVSU, where he teaches Operations Management to MBA students. In 2006 he was the recipient of Distinguished Alumnus Award from Indian Institute of technology, Mumbai, India and 2007 he was awarded Distinguished Alumnus Award form the University if Cincinnati for his work in helping out Asian and other students improve their educational opportunities.
